Lean Business Operations – McKinsey, Lean, Six Sigma

While seeking knowledge on the Internet about business operations, I realized that there aren’t too many decent sources of information focused on educating business people on how to “harvest value from assets owned by the business.” I gathered a few resources that may be helpful to you.

  1. Ehow – Definition of Lean Operations
  2. McKinsey & Company – From lean to lasting : Making operational improvements stick
  3. Lean Manufacturing
  4. Six Sigma
  5. 12 Operations Experts Share their Key Learnings from 2011

McKinsey’s article goes deep in comparing Lean and Six Sigma and explains why specific process improvements are not enough. Improving processes to eliminate waste, variability, and inflexibility (Toyota‘s approach), are not enough. The other real challenge is how to improve people. A cultural shift is needed for peak performance one that crosses boundaries in the Management Infrastructure, the Technical System, and the Mind-sets and Capabilities of the company.
